Hey guys! So next week I'm starting college at a local university in the city I live in and I'm pretty excited to say the least but soooooo nervous at that! I'm the first one in my family to go to college so I don't have much guidance in that sense. My major is social work. I feel really empowered by the fact that I can help make people's lives better in any way, shape, and form! I've told a couple people about my major though and they kind of just give me that look like "are you serious?" A couple of relatives have even told me that social workers dont make enough money and I should of just went to school for medicine or something in law. But that's not me!! My parents don't know much about school systems here so they don't really even know what I'm going to school for, well actually my mom does and she supports me on it. I've had to take out a small loan just to pay my first semesters tuition and it's kinda scary because I've never had to do something like that. Also if anyone has any knowledge of social work, I would like to know what are your guy's opinions on the field? I'm still trying to figure out what direction I wanna go into all that. Also, if you guys can please give me advice on how to stay on track with everything in college and stay focused I would really appreciate it! I procrastinate a lot and I hate it! Thanks so much!!

I know it's obvious but DON'T PROCRASTINATE!!! Stay organized and have a little fun (not too much). You'll have the rest of your life to mess around and slack and college is just a couple years just push through it. You'll do just fine

I too am in college and am doing quite an intense course however I know from experience as well that it is very easy to get carried away with the new found freedom and the fun of college. I would suggest that having fun and everything is okay, infact it is a must, but everytime you feel that it is starting to take over your academic goals take a step back and remind yourself what you're there for. This reality check should keep you in check I guess.
